Questions about tipping...

Yesterday I went to a new salon (it was heaven, thankfully!), my hair turned out fantastic but I am so confused about how much to tip a hair stylist?? I gave her $10, is that enough?? She had an assistant that washed and blew my hair dry so I also gave her $10 but as I was leaving I was afraid that they might think that I was cheap?? What is the etiquette with tipping?? Any ideas??

I never tip the assistant (although I have never had an assistant blow my hair dry). I thought the stylist was supposed to give the assistant a portion of the tip. My person does not have an assistant and I usually tip her between 10 and 20 depending on how much I have done.

Hi, sorry this is late. I usually tip between 10 & 15 percent. It depends on how stellar of a job they did. When an assistant does part of the job... which is usually washing, I usually tip $5. They aren't doing anything spectacular or anything that requires major schooling. Just my .02 cents.
